Emily Gutman has been sewing for as long as she can remember- at an early age she’d play around on her mum’s and grandmother’s machines, making self-drafted purses for all the stuff she never carried around (she was 7, she didn’t have keys!). Upon discovery that her high school “Fashion Design” class was more like “Intro to Sewing” she got her teacher’s blessing to run her own prom-dress-making business out of the classroom while everyone else made pajama pants. She now holds a degree in Apparel Design and Merchandising and is fascinated with the technical aspects of pattern design, which led her to launch her own sew-at-home pattern company, Mighty Femme Patterns. Emily loves to teach others to sew, and is constantly trying to lure her friends into her basement/sewing studio to make fun projects (it’s not as creepy as it sounds).
When she’s not sewing, Emily can usually be found in her kitchen whipping up incredible meals that she will serve you along with a napkin she made herself. |
